" I have always been fascinated by scrap yards, junk shops and cemeteries and have always photographed them. The one thing they all have in common is decay. Its always captivated me how new things that are bought as treasured possession end up in the bin a few years later. Nothing stays pristine and nothing stays the same. Everything is constantly evolving from one chemical state to another. And so the metal morphosis is to rust and it is returned to the iron oxide in the earth that it came from. The photos in this series are an attempt to capture the beauty of change and the fascinating passage of decay " Paul Williams

Polaroid produced for a short time in the 1990's a very high speed black and white 10x 8 print material with no negative. Paul Williams discovered that if you pulled the Polaroid early the black backing that held a latent picture would solorize. This left a grey negative image against a solid black background. As the backing plastic negative dried crystals built up and Paul Williams started copying these onto 5x4 negative film to create final negative to print from. Paul Williams nicknamed these "Soloroids"
